The August Bank Holiday weekend will see the welcome return of a Ruddington charity’s main annual fundraiser – after it had to be cancelled last year due to COVID-19.
Since Bloomin’ Dementia‘s very successful ‘Big Day Out’ in 2019 – rebranded from ‘Walking with Dementia’ in previous years – the Coronavirus pandemic has caused an unwelcome two year interval – meaning that funds are needed this year more than ever before. The village-based charity, which enjoyed a high profile launch at 4, Easthorpe Street in November 2017, aims to give a better quality of life to dementia sufferers and their families – with all its services provided free of charge.
The date for ‘Bloomin’ Dementia’s Big Day Out 2021′ is set for Sunday 29th August from midday – with fingers crossed that restrictions will not return and kibosh the event again this year.
Organiser Amy Troke says: “The format of the event is staying very similar to previous years – with us meeting at the Forest Recreation Ground to begin our 5k walk with plenty of refreshment stops, including some new additions which will be announced in the near future. The aim this year is not only social inclusion for all, but more money raised and even more fun than we had before.”
Whilst this walk is still almost three months’ away, Amy explains she wanted to give everyone as much advance notice as possible to register and gain sponsors: “Hopefully also more time for you to convince a friend or two to tag along and help, too! As always, this is a fantastic day out come rain or shine (as last time proved!) so please keep an eye out for upcoming details of the route and much, much more!”
Amy adds: “After missing last year’s event due to COVID-19 this year’s is even more important. The money raised from the Big Day Out is an integral part of our funding and really does make a huge difference to the lives of people living with dementia.”
The charity says absolutely anyone can join ‘Bloomin’ Dementia’s Big Day Out’ so long as you are able to walk 5km with a few “pit stops” along the way. To sign up you need to pay a £10 registration and pledge to raise £50. Just click >>HERE<< register – then please email your details through to Amy@bloomindementia.org.
